Art. 53 Constitution of the Canton of Valais, (1907) The Council of State exercises the executive and administrative power and enjoys all the competences attributed to it by the Constitution or by law. It acts as a collegial body. Important affairs always remain within its competence. It distributes the affairs among the departments, the number and responsibilities of which are determined by an ordinance approved by the Grand Council. For all other matters, the Council of State organizes itself.

Il Consiglio di Stato esercita il potere esecutivo e amministrativo e fruisce di qualsivoglia competenza attribuitagli dalla Costituzione o dalla legge.
Esso agisce come autorità collegiale.
Gli affari importanti permangono sempre di sua competenza.
Il Consiglio di Stato ripartisce gli affari tra i dipartimenti, il cui numero e le cui attribuzioni sono stabiliti in un’ordinanza approvata dal Gran Consiglio.
Per il resto, il Consiglio di Stato si organizza da sé.
