AN ACT further to amend the aid Age Pensions Act, 1948.

BE IT ENACTED by the President. by and with the advice and

consent of the House of Representatives, in tħis present Parliament

assembled. and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

(1) This Act mav be cited as the Old Age Pensions (Amend­

ment) (No. 2) Act, 1981, a nd shall be read and c o nstrued as one with

the OId Age Pensions Act, 1948, hereinafter referred to as "the principal

Act".

(2)

This Act shall have effect as fol1ows

(a) section 4 and paragraph (c) of section 6, as from the 3rd

day of January, 1981;

(b) sections 2, 3, 5 and 6 (with the exception of paragraph

(c) thereof) as from the 2nd day of January, 1982.

For the definition of "severely handicapped person" in section

2 of the principal Act there shall be substituted the following new

definition

" "severely handicapped person" means a person who stil1 has

a reasonable expectancy of life and who is

incapable of supporting

himse1f owing to a permanent handicap arising from -

(a)

total deafmutism; or

(b) achondroplasia, hypopituitarism, osteogenesis imper­

fecta or other forms of dwarfism; or

one of the fol1owing diseases, namely

(c)

Multiple Sclerosis

Muscular Dystrophy

Spina Bifida

Hydrocephalus

Huntington's Chorea;".

In subsection (1) of section 3A of the principal Act. for the

words "one hundred and fifteen cents" there shall be substituted the

(c) in item (i i) of the proviso to sub-paragraph (c) of para­

graph ( 3) thereof. the words "(other than leprosy assistance)" shall

be deleted.
