Art. 3 OSR

As a general rule, warning signs take the shape of an equilateral triangle with a red border and feature a black symbol on a white background. When dealing with matrix signs, the background may be black and the symbol white.

Their installation will only be ordered in locations where a driver unfamiliar with the area might not notice a danger or notice it too late.

Subject to derogatory provisions applicable to certain signs, warning signs shall be placed: a. within localities, just before the dangerous spot; if they are placed more than 50 meters ahead, the distance will be indicated on a "Distance Plate" (5.01); b. outside localities, between 150 and 250 meters before the dangerous spot; if it is impossible to comply with this rule, the distance will be indicated on a "Distance Plate"; c. on highways and semi-highways, at the dangerous spot or at most 100 meters before; as advanced signs, they will also be placed between 500 and 1000 meters before the dangerous spot and will be supplemented by a "Distance Plate."

The length of a hazardous section may be indicated on a supplementary plate "Section Length" (5.03). When this length is significant, warning signs will be repeated at appropriate intervals and may be supplemented by a "Reminder Plate" (5.04) as necessary.
