ACT No. XXVI of 1981

AN ACT to amend the Identity Card Act, 1975.

BE IT ENACTED by the President, by and with the advice and

consent of the House of Representatives, in this present Par1iament

assembled, and by the authority of the same, as fol1ows:-

This Act may be cited as the Identity Card (Amendment) Act,

1981, and shall be read and construed as one with the Identity Card Act,

1975, hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act".

For paragraph (b) of subsection (2) of section 5 of the principal

Act, there shall be substituted the fol1owing

"(b)

the address where such person ordinarily resides;".

For section 6 of the principal Act there shall be substituted the

(1) An identity card shall remain valid for a period

of five years only, and may not be renewed

Provided that the Prime Minister may at any time

(other than the period between the dissolution of Par1iament

and the conc1usion of the first general election held after such

dissolution), by notice in the Gazette terminate, in such man­

ner and on such da te or dates as he may deem appropriate,

the validity of all 01' any c1ass or c1asses of identity cards.

(2) Where the holder of an identity card is a person

to whom subsection ( 1 ) of section 3 of this Act applies, such

pe1'son shall, not later than one month prior to the expiration

of the validity of the identity card, or not later than one month

after the termination of the validity of the identity card, as

the case may require, apply for a new identity card in accord­

ance with the provisions of this Act and shall surrender the

invalid card for a new one.".

In section 8 of the principal Act, for the words "its validity
